docshipwreck
Sorry this may be a noob question but all of you are so awesome to take a few minutes of your busy lives to help us newbies!!! This cake along with a piece of live rock, hasn't moved but sort of wiggles if I gently prod when blowing off rocks. Sort of bristly as well. Thanks for taking a look!! Link to comment

docshipwreck
any way to tell if this is still alive and what I can do to help it thrive? Link to comment
Boggers
It should open up a little to let water flow in if still living. If you watch it for a few minutes and it doesn't open, it most likely is not living. Link to comment
docshipwreck
would it be as "stuck" on as it is if it was still alive? Link to comment

Cnidarious
ooooh, its some sort of bivalve. i`m not familiar enough with bivalve taxonomy to be sure. Link to comment
Clown79
Yes. I've had empty bivalves and live ones completely stuck on to rock. I once baught a rock full of ricordia. Then one day it started moving. Half the rock was a bivalve. Link to comment
Mariaface
That does look pretty scallopy! If you do see it with a slight gap for filter feeding, try poking its shell with something or moving the water around it. A healthy one will immediately clamp shut if it notices a disturbance in the force. Link to comment
