Lawnmower Blenny

Astinus

Recommended Posts

Had a good look at the Lawnmower Blenny just now.

Have had this Blenny for about 3 weeks now.

TBH, At the time we added him to the tank we did not realize we had an Ammonia issue.

He Survived! But, I am wondering if the Ammonia may have had a hand in this

issue that I noticed, I really don't know if it is an issue, and can't recall if he looked like this when purchased.

Half his tail is white, almost bleached looking. Could this be due to the Tank issue or

maybe diet related? He is eating the Algae like a champ.

Could use some advice and or ideas.

2 Pics to follow.

BTW, I love what looks like eyelashes.

Blennies change colors when stressed by either other/aggressive fish, environment, nutritional deficiencies etc. my blennies, when spooked and/or stressed will turn patchy/get white patches. Other fish types will do the same thing as well.

Huh, I did not know this!

The 2 black stripe Damsels don't bother the Blenny.

It is funny though, after I posted this topic, a few hrs later he looked normal again.

  • 3 weeks later...

Blenny's do change colour. My bicolor changed its colours at night when moonlights went on. It also changed colour when spooked.

Just make sure theres enough algae for it. They can clesn up a tank quickly. Putting some nori on a clip can help.
