alexm2251
To the right of the Duncan's is red slime. But what is above the Duncan's it is very and doesn't precipitate off the rock. There is defiantly some coraline alage. But what is the grey stuff???? Link to comment

Mariaface
It looks fuzzy, so I want to say sponge, but there are bacterial issues that look the same. ...Plus it's all fuzzy. Have you looked at hitchhiker guides? Link to comment

ajmckay
Need more description. How long have you had this rock and when did you notice it? Where did the rock come from? - What do you mean by "it doesn't precipitate off the rock"? - Is it hard or soft? - Is it growing or has it been like that for a while now (how long)? - Is it a dark area or a light area? - Does it change at all from day to night? - Are there any other details you can share (like are the tips smooth an form a point or are the tips fuzzy)? My initial thought is probably an algae of some sort - would be supported by a fuzzy appearance to the branches & tips. Next guess would be a sponge of some sort, in which case everything would look pretty smooth, possibly with tiny connectors between the branches. Link to comment
alexm2251
i just went into my tank i think since i have some cyano in the tank. its just coraline alage with red slime over it. i took a tooth brush to it and it didnt not come off i dont think its an algae or a sponge. its hard and i tried to scare it with my finger and it was just rock solid. i have had the tank for about a year with its ups and downs. no dark areas i have a 20 gallon high tank with a kessil aw360 so lighting is not the problem. what i mean by precipitate is like if it was detritus it would blow off if i put a baster to it.
