titration test kits

when doing any sort of titration test, like mg/ca/alk etc, i take the "final reading" right when the color switches. i was in a LFS last week and someone said they drip 2-3 more drops and take that reading as the final reading.

have i been doing this wrong the entire time?

I've not heard of that with the tests i've used which are salifert, api, and red sea, what your lfs said. The instructions would tell you that if it was the case.

Now in some instances like the Api ca test. You can add 15 drops of liquid at once to get to 400(if u know your ca levels), then add each individual drop after until the colour changes.

I have not heard of adding drops once the colour has changed. Like Salifert magnesium, it says once the colour turns blue thats the result and you check the number etc etc.

the argument that this individual had was that the "true" color change happened a few drops after the initial color switch.

ironically i was doing a mag test when i wrote this haha! the mag test for salifert is pretty obvious when it switches, i couldn't imagine adding more drops for a more "accurate" reading.

Ya, I don't understand their argument.

When I test ca or mag its pretty obvious the colour change, as you experienced.

There are times if the colour isn't exact i will add another drop to see if the colour changes.
