LFS false species label?

Hello fellow reefers it's been quite some time (2 months to be exact) since I bought my "tiger" pistol shrimp from my LFS. I didn't really pay much to the color when I bought it (mostly due to excitement). BUT anyways the reason I'm writing this is that I think my pistol shrimp isn't a tiger. It looks mostly grey with blue markings on the tail and large claw it seems to have the same pattern as a tiger but just a different color. Looking at all the pictured I've seen they should be a nice brown pattern. I thought the color was faded due to stress but it's been 2 MONTHS! so I would think it should be coloring up. It's getting enough food because I target feed hikari crab cuisine to it everyday. I'm on a phone and I don't know how to post a picture so sorry :P.

I've seen plenty of stuff mis-labeled at various times - especially when it comes to less popular things like this... So what's your question? Are you asking if it should somehow change color after 2 months? I would doubt it - if it were dull due to stress that condition would have probably been righted within the first day or so.

It's possible you just have a variant... Not everything is identified correctly in a google search either and definitely not a representation of all possible variations. You will need a lot more detail than just color in many cases to accurately identify the species.

Oh was wondering if my pistol shrimp is a tiger or not

Won't know without a pic - even then there could be color variations to a degree. I'm sure someone could look at the pic though and notice a few key characteristics that could confirm that it's a tiger pistol, some other type, or even a hybrid.

It might not look as brown as in all the search results; but the pattern should still look something like this.a36279d123209117eb53da3c9bddcc76.jpg

I've read a bunch of threads where species have been misidentified (and therefore, often mispriced). In many cases, the LFS is just continuing the misidentification from their vendor. However, if you were excited when you got it, try not to let that fade (even if it was misidentified).

As it gets older the colour may deepen. Glad to hear you didn't get the wrong shrimp :)

My pom pom was really light pink until it molted a few times, now its darker.
