uwharrie
I have a Biocube 29. Intank Media Basket in chamber 2 followed by a Hydor skimmer. I never can seem to get the skimmer to skim. Not sure if my water level is too high or not I have tried lifting it up on egg crate and did not seem to make a difference. Anyone use the Hydor in a biocube? should I replace it with a Tunze? scurvy dawg
I have a Tunze 9001 in chamber 2 of my Biocube 32 and don't ever really get much out of it other than some light green water. I've tried just about every adjustment I can think of. I think it's just the nature of the beast with a nano skimmer. Link to comment
Clown79
I've heard that nno skimmers aren't the best. Have you tried adjusting it? Link to comment
StevieT
Never saw much promise with a Hydor nano skimmer Tunze 9001 is your best option. And yes, light green like skimmate is what it will collect. That is the nature of a nano skimmer. Thick goo will collect in the neck of the 9001, depending on situation. Link to comment
uwharrie
So any other suggestions as to how to control excess nutrients? I am still having a hell of a time with them. Weekly water changes, vacuuming the hell out of the sand bed. Now seem to be getting what I think is spirallina (spp) I think it is too stringy to be Cyano Link to comment

Just pale tea skimmate, but at least it is doing something. When I used NOPox with the skinmer my nitrates went down a lot (it is a high nutrient tank with a sun coral and target mandarin that are fed heavily daily). I pulled both before goung to Europe this sumner and need to start using both again. Link to comment
uwharrie
Thanks. I have considered adding a GFO ( is that right?) My tank was doing so well and now I am struggling. I know I will get it back under control at some point! I HOPE! Same here. I had the Coralife skinner in mine, then went to the Tunze 9001. Just pale tea skimmate, but at least it is doing something. Newstead
I think GFO is granulated ferrous oxide - used in media bags to lower phosphates. I wish I had pics of my first reef tank, the biocube 14, at about a year old. Thick cyano everywhere, aiptasia killing off all corals. It would make you feel much better! Link to comment
