So I have a very unorthodox setup for my tank.

I'm using an old school Oceanic 30 gallon long tank.

It's Dimensions are 36x12x17

I have an aquaclear 70 on one far end and a reef octopus 1000 hon on the other. I'm currently using a hydor koralia nano 425 power head on one side to direct flow.

Getting ideal flow is tricky....

Anyone have good advice on getting ideal flow in long tanks? Power head placement?

NO WAY!!!!!!!!!! My freshwater tank is my mom's old Oceanic 26 Flat-Back-Hex circa 1989! She hadn't even met my Dad yet! They're built like tanks- love mine to death. I have an MP10 in my Nuvo 30L (36" length) and it works great. If you're looking for something broader, try a Gyre- MAxspect or Jebao.

Good luck,

Nick

FYI, I have one Aqueon 33L, (48"x13"X13"), for Tanganyika Cichlids. Using one TUNZE 3162 and one TUNZE 3163 as internal filter and stream maker, plus one TUNZE 6020 at another side of the tank. Not bad for the cichlids; search TUNZE Comline Reeefpack 250 for relevant info, (with skimmer).

i would look at a sicce brand pumps, the nano verision blows away the 425. There larger models look greak due to the ability to change the flow shape which might help you alot.
