Two-Part dosing question..

Hey guys,

So I think I finally have it down on how much I need to dose B-Ionic two-part to maintain alk and calcium. I have a small mixed reef Nuvo 16 gallon tank and it seems to be taking 10ml of each solution to keep my parameters at the following:

Alk - 8.4dkh
Calcium - 400ppm

Does 10ml sound like a lot of solution for such a small tank? Or does that actually make sense due to such little water volume, the SPS are depleting the values fairly quickly.

Thanks

FTS? A Nuvo 16 has about 12 gallons of water capacity, so you're adding about 0.5 a dKh a day. I assume this is your daily dose, you don't actually say. Considering well stocked, much larger water volume tanks can easily consume 1+ dKh per day, it doesn't seem high by any means assuming you have a reasonable amount of stoney in the tank.

My Daily dose is 10ml of each solution per day. If I don't dose, it seems to drop almost 1.5dkh per day.

There's a decent amount of stone in that tank, but the simple math says that tank and 10ml should only be a 0.5 dKh of loss per day.

I may be simply just missing something here.. How did you calculate the .5 dKh a day loss?

why would it go off of water volume? You can have lps versus Sps and the will consume very different amounts so the dosing wouldn't be the same

i think you calculate based off of loss not water volume so test on water change day after the WC then test 4 days later and you should be able to figure out how much is consumed each day with a little simple math

10ml of B ionic has a finite amount of carbonate in it. That is then distributed throughout the water volume. If the water volume is 20 gallons vs 10, that finite amount of carbonate is only going to raise the dKh by half the amount. Boiling it down, it's a very simple math problem about how much liquid stone is dissolved into the water. If you double the water there is half as much liquid stone being dissovled.
