Intank Media Composition

I am planning to use two Intank media in my new reef tank.

Intank Media composition #1 (order from the top to bottom):
-Filter Floss
-Seachem Matrix Carbon in Seachem 180 micron mesh bag
-Seachem Purigen in Seachem 180 micron mesh bag

Intak media composition #2:
-Poly Filter pad
-Seachem Phosguard in Seachem 180 micron mesh bag
-Chemipure Blue

Two questions for you experts:

1. What do you think of the composition?
2. Do I install them from the beginning of the cycle, or after cycle is completed? If after cycle is completed, what do I install in these intank media while cycling?

You don't need the media before the cycle is complete. You can cycle without anything in the baskets. I also would not use both Purigen and Chemipure Blue as they overlap in function.

How about Seachem Phosguard and Chemipure Blue?

Chemipure contains GFO already, why so much phosphate control?

I will just go with filter floss and chemipure once the tank is cycled.

Sometimes, in this hobby, simple is better, especially when starting off...

 

My IM10 has literally just been running with 2 nano pouches of chemipure blue, floss on the top shelf to catch large particles, and water changes, sometimes weekly, sometimes monthly if I'm lazy lol

Less is more. Most will recommend to use phos removers when needed or you may strip the tank which leads to other issues.

 

Chemipure blue has a gfo in it so using that after the cycle with floss should be enough.

 

The key is maintenance, vacuuming sand with water changes, low bioload, and not over feeding
