How long do bacteria blooms last?

Just got a bacteria bloom last night and i have been trying to find what caused it and I believe I may have found it. A day before the bloom began I couldn't account for one goby. Couldn't find him anywhere. Looked in his burrow and everything. Nothing. Perhaps that could have caused the bloom? And if that's the case how long will this bloom last? It's a 300 gallon tank with a 75 sump so I couldn't amagine a 1.5-2 inch goby causing too much harm. I'm planning on doing a large water change on Monday when my salt shows up. Nitrate is the only thing I have seen rise. Went from 10 to 15.

It could last a day to more than a week. This is a pretty new tank isn't it? I've seen a few threads about you buying fish; how many are in there now? The water change will export nitrate, but I'm not confident that it will do much for the bloom.

A UV filter should help. You could also try a clarifier like Caribsea Bio-Magnet, with filter floss. Otherwise, it should eventually resolve itself.

it's like a month and a half old. Started with all live rock except for like 20 pounds. I currently have 9 fish in there. I never even had an ammonia spike. And I have a uv filter but it's a tiny one I had on my 75. Better than nothing I guess.
