Sand recommendation for HiFin Goby & Pistol Pair?

I have a 34 g. Red Sea with a 1-2 inch sand bed. I bought a pink Fiji sand that is too fine and hard to keep clean because the sand sucks up my cleaner before the junk.

 

What size sand does the Hi Fin Goby and Candy Cane Pistol shrimp need or want?

 

What sand would you recommend me adding?

 

I'm planning to just add more slowly as my sand gets sucked up. Does that sounds like an OK plan?

I have fiji pink and it doesn't get sucked up. All you have to do is put you finger over the hole where the water is draining and the sand drops, then emove finger and it will suck up the detritus.

 

Also vacuuming lightly on an angle will do the same.

 

You don't want to big a grain with pistols or gobies.

My goby and shrimp pair seem to like caribsea ocean direct original sand. The shrimp likes to use the sea shells in the sand for building.
