reefercorey
I got a used rodi from someone from my local reef club. When i hooked it up i was only get waste water and no rodi water. I thought I figured out the issue and removed the ASOV valve because i read that they can malfunction but still no water and the last two chambers wont fill with water. Any ideas? Link to comment
FlowerMama
Maybe check what pressure, mine wasn't enough though it went slow, I had to add pressure? How long did they use it and did they ever replace any media? Do a back flush to see that nothings clogged? Link to comment
AZDesertRat
Does the unit have a flush kit on the waste line and is it in the normal closed position? What is your tap pressure? Link to comment
reefercorey
The pressure gauge was broken so im not sure what my pressure is. I know my pressure isn't great but I thought that would just make the process slower and not actually give me no water at all. And no flush kit Link to comment
AZDesertRat
It takes a minimum of 40 psi to drive the water through the membrane. Have you checked to make sure it had a flow restrictor in the waste line? You said you removed the ASOV, it is extremely easy to get lines crossed up, even those with experience do so sometimes. Photos of the units plumbing would help troubleshoot it. Link to comment

Christopher Marks
It may be low water pressure, but I get the sense the filter in the first chamber has clogged, since no water is entering any of the next chambers. Typically this is a less expensive sediment filter, but if this one is clogged this bad, it may be worth replacing all of the additional filters as well. Many of our community sponsors sell affordable replacement filter packages and could help you get your unit back in working order. Since it was a used unit, do you know how long it sat idle? Was there any chance of it freezing while in storage? Link to comment
reefercorey
I am not sure how long it sat. He said he used it recently but who knows haha. The water goes through the first two chambers but then it all goes out the waste. I'm going to see if the membrane is clogged or either of the last two chambers are clogged. I'm trying to avoid getting a water pressure gauge because its either going to tell me the pressure is fine in which case I didn't need the gauge or it will tell me my pressure is too low in which case the gauge was a waste because I wont spend $200 to get a booster pump. AZDesertRat
Follow this diagram, you have it plumbed wrong. http://spectrapure.com/huds/ASO-SYS.pdf It appears you are filling with the red line since it has the hose thread adapter but it also has the flow restrictor which goes on the waste line. The waste line is the one closest to the outside edge on the RO housing with two outlets on it. The fill should connect to the sediment filter, then to the carbon block, up to the RO membrane on the end with a single connector (or through the ASOV then the membrane). Out of the membrane on the end with two outlets via the one nearer the centerline, through the other side of the ASOV and to the DI. Link to comment
reefercorey
Yes, I was filling using the red line. The red is connected to the sediment filter in my picture although it kind of looks like its coming from the ro membrane. Im guessing the flow restictor is that white piece on the red line? So do I just move that piece on to the end of the drain line? Link to comment
AZDesertRat
The flow restrictor goes on the waste line, usually close to the membrane housing. Make sure you have the 3 connections to the RO housing correct, the two one one end with one closer to the centerline of the housing whick is treated water and the other closer to the outside edge which is the waste. These often get mixed up. The carbon outlet goes to the end with only one fitting. Link to comment
reefercorey
Thanks! This is very helpful. I will give it a try later on today when I'm home Link to comment
reefercorey
I moved the flow restrictor to the waste line (not sure why the guy I got it from had it on the intake) and i got water from the output line! I was so excited at first.... the output was at 17ppm and the input around 170. I figured I'd let it run for awhile to flush out a bit and i checked it 30 minutes later and the output had went to up 33ppm and then after a full hour it was at 80ppm and still slowly creeping up! One step forward two steps back haha I never knew I would have to become a plumber to keep a tank but im enjoying the challenge. Any tips? Link to comment
AZDesertRat
Is that RO only TDS or RO/DI TDS? To troubleshoot you need 3 TDS readings, tap, RO only and final RO/DI. Also measure your waste ratio to make sure it is correct, too little waste and the membrane isn't being well flushed and too much waste and you don't have sufficient pressure available at the membrane for efficient treatment. Also what is your pressure gauge showing? Link to comment
