duganderson
I have a Red Sea 130D that I bought used with a Rapid LED type retrofit light setup in the hood. The cooling fan was removed. Also, I think one or both of the fan's to cool the light have burnt out. Do these LED setups need fans? Should I replace them? Link to comment
evilc66
As a general rule, you need a fan. Much of it is dependant on how much power the heatsink has to dissipate, but with the heatsink being mounted in a hood, a fan of some type is mandatory. Without one, the hood will just trap heat and start to increase your LED temperatures beyond what is comfortable. Link to comment
Wirewiggler
I am sure it would need a fan , I recall Steve's led retro kits had one in it. Not only to cool the leds but also to keep the heat away from the tank. Link to comment
