Canadianeh
I rather not over bought it, but how do I know how much sand I need for IM Fusion 40 tank? Is there a rule of thumb that I can use, or is it simply just trying to estimate it yourself by eyeballing it. Link to comment
Astinus
That depends I guess. Some would go Bare bottom. But, when I set up our JBJ 28 Gal AIO, I went with 40 Lbs Live Sand. We have anywhere from 1.5 Inches to 2 inches of depth. Some would go 1 lb per gallon. I Really can't answer from knowledge. Link to comment
Canadianeh
Thank you. I think I will get 40 lbs. Link to comment

Canadianeh
If I have left over, how do I store it? Link to comment

RayWhisperer
1 to 1.5 lbs per gallon will give you roughly 3/4" to 1.5" sand bed. This is, on a typical tank, with typical dimensions. As for storing it... leave it in the bag, put it in a bucket, put it in a rock garden.... whatever you feel like. The live sand you buy at the lfs isn't live. They put a packet of bacteria inside. Without that, it's just sand in some saltwater. I don't ever bother with livesand. I just buy it dry. The bacteria from real live rock is far more efficient than anything they culture to package in a bottle or packet. Link to comment
