Reefergirl82
Hello, My sandbed has turned rock hard except in the back where there isn't as much flow or light. I don't know what to do to prevent this as I don't know what causes it. Coralline has started to grow on it since it has turned into a rock. Any advice on how to prevent it and on how to replace it with sand again is greatly appreciated. Thank you. Link to comment

CaptJab
Seems like there are 2 ways for this to occur. one way is chemical and the other is biological. There are ways to test it, but I can't remember how. Seems like bleach is involved on the biological one. Just remove a piece and drop it in bleach, if it falls apart, it's bacterial, if it remains hard, it's chemical. it's been a while so I could easily be wrong, but maybe you can find something from that small amount of info. I do remember it's more common for it to be chemical related. Link to comment
