Lizz
Hi! I currently have a nuvo fusion 20 and i ran it with softies just fine before our cross country with one prime, but i'd really like to add a couple SPS in its new incarnation and i know the prime on its own wont cut it. SO....should i add another prime or should i sell the one i have and get an AI hydra26 HD? lights are the one part of reefkeeping i still just cannot wrap my brain around, so i really don't know what the best option is. as an aside, i seriously hate how there isn't a tank mount to orient the hydra horizontally over your tank. what gives?? Horerczy
Personally I'd pick second prime just so you have more control over light spread. Also probably the cheaper option. Link to comment
Lizz
yeah, i like the idea that i could control the intensity over each half of the tank and stock accordingly. especially since i'm going with a 'two island' style scape.... but i haven't found any good first hand accounts of getting any good SPS growth under a prime. as for cost, it would work out to be fairly similar because i would end up selling my current prime (i still have the box!) if i went the hydra route. Sherman
I will get another prime for more room to place and control Link to comment
gmanreefer
Just for some anecdotal Prime (not HD) can grow easy SPS (albeit slowly but that may not be due to the light) in my 20 gallon cube tank which taller than an IM fusion 20 i'm guessing. Perhaps you can just increase the intensity of the light and move the softies to the outer edge of the light with the SPS in the center. Link to comment

DaveFason
100% go with the second Prime. Overall you will be much happier. Link to comment
Lizz
thanks for the advice, everyone! i think going for the second AI prime is the obvious choice now. Link to comment
Clown79
I have 1 prime over my 15g which is 24" long. No shadowing at all, full coverage. My tank has lps, softies, and sps. Many ppl run the 20g nuvo with 1 prime. I think too many go overkill with too much lighting. Link to comment
