TotesMaGoat
I had bought a tiger pistol (about 3" lonng" and a yellow watchman goby (about 1" to 1 1/2") a week+ ago. Introduced them to the tank together and right away they paired up and burrowed together. That lasted about 3 days. I stopped seeing the goby and figured he was just acclimating and hiding. Well a week had passed without seeing him, even during feeding when the pistol came out. I have a fusion 30L so not a ton of places to hide. Had to rescape the rock and in the process check rock crevices. Shrimp scurried around but no sign of the goby. Im 100% hes not in the tank. Checked rear chambers but nothing. If he was eaten by the shrimp, wouldnt there at least be a carcass? Im thinking because he was so much smaller than the pistol, the pistol may have eaten him. Only other creatures in the tank are 2 clowns and some hermits, With it being a new tank I feed lightly 2x a day to keep everything happy just to prevent cases like this. Link to comment
RayWhisperer
Hard to say anything for certain. Tiger pistols have been known to kill fish. Though I've never had one kill anything. The goby could have died from other causes just as likely a scenario. In either case, the pistol would eat the carcass. And, I'm quite sure there would be nothing left. Link to comment
Droy008
Gobies are notorious for being sneaky, he may still be in there. Id give it some time... Link to comment
Dekon70
As Droy008 said, they are sneaky. Mine will disappear for a week only to reappear even though I see my tiger pistol out and about. When I first got him he liked to jump into the overflow and I'd find him in the sump. Didn't see him for two weeks one time and thought he was a goner, nope the he was in the chamber with the return pump. He went down the overflow, got out of a filter sock, swam through a bubble trap, through the refugium, and over the pump chamber divider. A little Houdini. Link to comment
