Hey Guys at Marine D.

I am wondering if there is a way to compare these 2 skimmers.

Aside from Price. It Appears that the WS-100 could be used in the back

chamber of my JBJ 28 AIO.

I looked at ur Website and I am trying to see or find a "Compare" button.

Thank you. Just curious.

Hello Astinus,

Thank you for coming to us with your aquarium questions. We currently do not offer this feature but we hope to incorporate it real soon. The AquaMaxx HOB - 1 protein skimmer is one of the best hang on back skimmers money can buy. The WS-1 is the in-sump version of this skimmer. I am currently running the WS-1 in one of my aquariums and it definitely packs a punch. Simply double check the dimensions of the area in your tank in which you are trying to place it in to ensure that it would fit. I hope this helps, if you have any further questions feel free to respond. Thank you for your time and have a great day.

TY MD.

I Am Sumpless. I have another thread here regarding the HOB-1 And a member mentioned the WS-100.

Just wanted to compare them for operation. It kinda looks like the ws-100 might work, but I think I'll stick with a known.

Thank you for your kind words! Chatting with other hobbyists online is a joy and it never feels like work. I'm glad we were able to work together to find the right solution for your tank!

Talk to you Friday,

Jeff @ Marine Depot

Jeff, Got the Order yesterday, late in the day.

Went to the website and watched the video on how to assemble it.

Due to speed of video and some scenes seemed a little unclear to me,

like which hole to put the air tube into as there are 2 "nibs" that the air tube could go.

Anyways, I got it assembled and waited til this morning's light to place the skimmer in the tank.

I finally did get it in, but had to fiddle with it some.

I did get the pump primed and is working, I guess I now need to wait for it to "Break in"?

Thank You Jeff! And TY MD for my easy purchase of the AquaMaxx HOB-1

Hello, Thanks again for the purchase. Here is the link to the owner’s manual that I used when setting up my HOB-1.

http://www.f3images.com/IMD/UserManuals/UJ1151.pdf

It definitely helped me get my skimmer going. It will take about 2-4 weeks to break in if needed. Also keep in mind that if it is a system with not too many fish then the skimming will be minimal. More fish would create more waste, therefore it will equal to more skimming in the end.

TY for the link and the Tip.

We have 5 Fish total. 4 Damsels and a Dottyback.

I have an oddball question. In the MarineDepot Vids, is that you?

The only thing I could suggest regarding the Video on how to set up (put together) the HOB-1

would be to take the video to "Real Time" instead of something looked like it was on hyper drive...lol

But seriously, It would have been nice to have someone explaining the what and where.

Cheers!

Thank you for your feedback. Real time setup videos is a great idea!

The video you watched is a bit old, but I believe that is still Robert who appears in most of our videos.

It's probably time for an update!

TY Jeff. I'm surprised no one else made that suggestion before.

That would be cool if u could raise that suggestion to MD.

Please let me know the outcome. If favorable, and they do make a new vid, would love to hear about that as well.

Hey Jeff, and Hiyas MD :)

3 weeks later and a review of my new HOB Skimmer.

I love the skimmer! Doing a great job!

I really like that I can easily adjust the skimmer collection cup up or down, depending on how wet or dry I want the skimmate.

With that said, I had initially failed to recognize that the pump was not primed.

I thought it was primed, as there was some water in main chamber (Bubble Chamber), it was not "Primed" though.

2 weeks ago, it was not sounding right. I went over and inspected it more closely and noticed no water was being drawn

up and into the skimmer. I then was successful in being 100% sure it was properly primed and drawing water in.

Since then, WOW! I am so happy with this Product.

Just a side note for down the road. The Rubber "O" ring that slides on the skimmer cup will eventually fail.

Rubber being rubber, it will happen.

Does Marine Depot carry AquaMaxx replacement parts?

TY Jeff :)

I have the HOB-1 myself and it's a rock star! I recently soaked and cleaned the heck out of it and it's performing better than I remembered. We have many AquaMaxx replacement parts, but not the O-rings for the collection cups by themselves. However, I am pretty sure AquaMaxx has them available if you contact their support.

I am delighted to share my experience. For you or anyone else who may stumble upon this thread, this is the video (not ours) I watched after I bought my HOB-1 to help me prime it.
