Anyone using this in their nano tank? I have a JBJ 28g cube and I'm thinking of trying this out for the small size and control factor. A second PH can be attacked and used as a slave. Do they sell this unit without the controller attached? Can the smaller 6020 be used and also controlled with the multiple settings on the controller? Would love to hear from anyone using these particular heads as well as any pros and cons. Thanks in advance.

Ok I guess this wasn't the most popular powerhead put out by Tunze. I gave it a shot and ordered one for my JBJ 28g cube. This lil pump ROCKS!!! The wave action that I'm getting is awesome!!! I wish I bought 2 of them, and it's completely silent. The one Tunze set to wave is doing a way better job that the 2 Koralia'a 425's that I had in the tank that were on the included wave maker. I will definitely be ordering another of these.

I like it so much I just ordered a second one. From what I read I see a lot of people use an Apex controller. What exactly do they do that makes it worth such a high price? I don't know anything about them. Wait... maybe I'm better off NOT knowing so I keep the money in my pocket!! LOL

Well, it depends on how much hands on time you'll have with your tank? You can probably get away with using different tools that accomplish the same task, but managing them all in one place is very convenient. For me, it's all about stability, redundancy and notification (should something go wrong). It's true, you'll keep some money in your pocket if you don't get one, but honestly, I would never run a tank (especially a nano) without one, but that's just me. If you can keep everything stable with the equipment you have, then you'll be ok. My schedule constantly changes, so I never know if I'll have time to do all the things necessary to manage my tank, so the apex is a second set of hands for me, my computer tank buddy. What do keep in your tank or plan to keep? Mixed reef? Sps?

I'm interested in these but was hoping someone could clarify a couple things for me that I haven't been able to find searching elsewhere-

Can the standard controller slowly increase and decrease the speed of the pump over a period of time to provide more constant flow, or is it just the on/off wavemaking pattern I've seen in videos?

Also how do they work when linked together? Can they be locked in to run opposite each other, particularly in a pattern like the above?

Not sure on your questions but I did a bunch of research on this pump a little while back in deciding whether to get another RW-8 or something else...

Seems to be a pretty good pump overall, and I like the vibration dampening features a lot. Still wonder if a snail or something could get stuck in it but that doesn't seem to be a complaint that I can tell so it's probably fine. My only question has to do with it's suitability for a 40B and where I would need to put it for it to be most effective... They come at a good pricepoint compared to other options like the MP10 or the gyre - but if I need to buy 2 it would end up costing the same as one of the more expensive options.

Same tank for me, and I am leaning heavily toward the new gyre but if these can do some type of synced alternating flow they would be a strong competitor based on the price. I figure I'm in it for 2 no matter what I get, but would be nice to avoid the expensive overkill that gyres would be.

I have a couple and like them a lot. There are two dials for flow power and one that controls the the frequency at which it switches between the two settings. If you want ramping you will need a different controller. There is an anti-sync mode when two pumps are linked and they pulse opposite eachother.

I was afraid of that.

In anti-sync mode is is possible to have a programmed period where there they are both off?

Thanks for the help.
