Pod Your Reef

Algae id

This stuff has recently shown up in my tank after switching to reef crystals. It's hard, can't be easily scraped off with brush or blown off with the baster. Snails ignore it. Seems to get "worse" daily. Sorry for the quality of the picture.

Pulled a rock out and scrubbed with brush and some came off.

My lights are on for 5 hours daily. Water temp ~78.5. Tank is two months.

Variety of snails, 2 clowns & 1 cleaner shrimp

Water parameters:

No3--5ppm (Red Sea)

No4--.03ppm (Salifert)

No4--.04 (Hanna)

Thanks

Looks like green coraline or some other base film type to me... harmless and just part of the aging/maturation process of live rock (or in this case base rock that's becoming live)

As a check: Does it brush off with a toothbrush or sprout tiny hairlike growths? if yes, THEN it could be a pest algae.

Not with a toothbrush, I was able to brush it off with a stiffer brush. No hair like growths that I can tell.

Thanks
