I noticed that you guys are having a sale for the aquamaxx skimmers. I was narrowing down to either the aquamaxx ws-1 or reef octopus classic 110 for my 42gal red sea reefer 170. Which would you recommend I for it? Will the reef octopus be too much for that tank size?

Either skimmer can be good options for the Reefer 170. The Reef Octopus is quite a large skimmer for a 42 gallon aquarium. If you are planning to have a very heavy fish bioload or plan to heavily and frequently feed your corals, the Reef Octopus should work nicely.

However, if this aquarium will only have a moderate fish bioload and/or you plan to feed your corals less often, then the AquaMaxx WS-1 would be the better option.

Oversizing a skimmer too significantly can be a problem as there is simply not enough organics in the water for the skimmer to function correctly.

Thank you for the reply. I just placed an order for the ws-1. Hope it's enough handle the tank. Planning on having only 5 or 6 fishes.

Now I have to shop for lights. I'm debating if I should purchase 1 Radion X15 G4 or a Radion X30 G3 for this tank. Which would you recommend? My stocking will be mainly LPS and softies and tank dimensions are 24L x 20w x 20h.

A single Radion XR15w G4 will do the job (see below). The G3 XR30w lights are priced to sell now, though. Very tempting!

Awesome! It is in stock in both of our warehouses, so it will ship from the location closest to you. For most shoppers, orders arrive in 2 business days or less. :naughtydance:

With the new HEI lens design, do you know if there is an increase in light spill from the new g4 radions?

Yes there is. You can see the G4 compared to the G3 in this video we made:
