potential crack forming?

Ok so I came home from my weekend away yesterday.. All was well with the tank. Fed the fish and went to bed.

This morning rushing out the door because I am about to be late for an exam... no time to feed...

I come back an hour later and I noticed this little clearish blob on the glass.. about a third of the way down just off center.

NOW my tank is about a quarter of an inch off in the front and little more so towards the side the glass anomaly is on...

It makes a crunchy/crackling noise but feels like silicon... It was NOT there on Friday when I left.

Is it the glass cracking? I cannot for the life of me get a camera to focus on it... it looks weird though. Like a dollop of silicone... small baby cracks through one side.. and more chip like on the other (If it is the glass...)

I was planning to level it today anyway because I honestly just noticed the leveling issue.

Going to drain the tank and redo it .... also clean out the ugly diatoms lol

Thanks guys!

Picture will be of more help.

Working on it lol once the water gets lower I should be able to grab a picture from inside the tank. It just wont focus from the outside... :/

I am trying to stuff some more shelf liner foam underneath of the tank as we speak.. but at a whole quarter inch ish... I am worried it's not enough.. :/ I don't have anything else on hand to shove under there.... except like cardboard which would just get wet...

OK I can't move this thing by myself and the fiance isn't home until 4 or so... there's always something!

EDIT: Found a jack and used it to lift it up by a 16th of an inch to cram cardboard under the legs of the ghetto stand

Now within 1/16 of an inch. Going for perfect because I am that guy. And I am paranoid.

Its hard to say about the glass. I can't tell by the picture. Do you have macro setting on the camera?

I have a tiny chip in my tank that i monitor. Depends on the depth of the chip and where the chip is.

Leveling the tank and having it on a good stand is really important. All 4 corners of the tank should be supported.

I would definitely consider buying some plastic or wood shims, cardboard in time will bend to the weight.

Is there any livestock in the tank?

Nope I am a poor grad student without any cash after reefing for so long lol. The texture of it is what gets me... its like silicone but makes crackly noises. I tried scraping it.. thinking a chip would splinter or at least fracture more.. nope. I mean in all of my years working on with glass and acrylics with my grandfather.... I just don't know I am so confused lol

I can't even think of something that would've hit right there... but it can't be a snail egg case..

I plan to get some shims soon but I don't have the car currently.. I'll squish them under as I take the cardboard out.

There is a single clown and a single hermit.. and whatever few snails the hermit hasn't eaten..at least two ceriths. So minimal.

The stand itself is two metal tables with an inch and a half of wood on top (two 3/4" pieces". The wood is oversized to spread the weight out over both tables equally.. however I think the carpet just was *that* much different between the two spaces. So I shimmed that so it was equal on the tables. The tables are super steady. I had my dad (200 plus) jump on one. Super sturdy and flat. Just not with the cruddy rental carpet apparently. So the stand just looks ghetto.

The tank for those who haven't read my thread is a Marineland 25 gallon 18" cube.

Also I do have a foam mat underneath the tank (double layer of that shelf liner stuff) cut to size. So I don't anticipate easy sliding but any means.

Ignore the salt ... I am not bothering to clean the glass unless I know I am not taking apart the tank for an emergency

Another better one. 14354950_10207153636499432_4006526827884

Found out my phone has a "pro" mode I can mess with ISO and focus

But why would it be squishy and soft? I thought our tanks were meant to clean break?

Looks like a chip in the glass. Can you feel it with your finger?

Like I've said it's weird... it feels squishy like silicone... but it crunches when I run over it with the mag float. It sticks out instead of being caved in.

Looks and sounds like chipped glass.....the crunchy part.

Can you pull off the piece that you're worried about? That would probably answer your question.

If it's glass, the piece is no longer adding anything structurally to the tank. If it's something other than glass, it'll come off and your tank will look like new.

Cannot pull it off. I've been picking at it since I saw it. Which is why I was confused. Every chip I have ever made 1) I got a new piece of glass lol and 2) Was a clean break.

Does anyone think this will pose a serious threat to the tank? If it is a chip it should theoretically not spread or spread only under extreme stress. At least from my experiences with working with glass in science projects.

Thanks everybody for helping me!
