Jayva
I want to add dry rock to an existing system. It'll eventually become live but I'm reading horror story's about tanks being nuked from it leeching phos and ammonia. What about like Texas holy rock I know it's dense. I don't really want it for biofiltrafion. I want to attach coral to it. What's a good idea to add rock to a running system without running into problems. I'm all ears. Link to comment
Romy11535
If you have a spare tank, I would drop it in there with some saltwater and a powerhead. Keep moving the rock around every couple of days to hit any dead spots and then after a couple of days test for phosphates. If you start seeing phosphates then do water changes every couple of days and test again. I just used tap water/salt for this process. Worked well for me. Took about 4 weeks before I felt PO4 stopped leaching. Hope that helps Link to comment

Got my dry rock from Reefcleaners.com and that stuff is clean as a whistle. No leaching of Ammonia or Phosphates from their rock. Link to comment
Jayva
Bought old live rock. About 10lbs. Stuck it in a bucket of tank water. Dosed 2PPM of clear ammonia it took it down to 0 over night. Waited 5 days poured 30ML of bio spira I had laying around in there. It spiked the nitrites to 1PPM then again over night 0. Waited a few more days and I put it in my display tank. And added phosgaurd in case it leeches any phosphates. So far so good. Gonna wait a week and add s fire fish and a yellow clown goby.
