Bcb577
So in another thread I told everyone that for the last 5 months I have consistently been fighting Cyrano in my sand bed,I did lights out and treated with peroxide and that worked for a cpl of weeks, then it came back.so yesterday we took the tank apart and blew off all the live rock and cleaned the tank up really good.if this doesn't work nothing will lol, here's a pic of the tank nowm Link to comment

Astinus
I was watching ur other thread regarding the Cyano. I agree, a lot of great advice from folks. I do admit though, I am glad u took Brandon's advice. He helped me some time ago with an issue I had. IMO, he knows his chit and is happy to help. He goes into some great detail, which can be a bit of a read, but it, again, IMO, gives a better understanding of what is happening and why. This Forum IS Great! No doubt about it. Link to comment
nancymatthews
Looks pretty and clean. When I battled cyano, I had to use Red Slime Remover to kill off the bacteria. It worked for me. Hopefully it doesn't come back because breaking down and cleaning everything can be a pain. Link to comment

nancymatthews
Why would you think it's the sand causing the cyano? Is that old sand from somewhere? Link to comment
brandon429
Try and pick up a handful of sand anyone and drop it down into your tank while filming it w iPhone for vid The cloud is the n and p and silt = fuel My own bed is due for a cleaning it won't pass but would have five months ago 1 pico reef has gotten past five years straight with a DSB so the claim that rinsing or extreme pre export is the only known successful mode long term w need counterbalancing links to be nullified, any older pico. Everyone's hands off pico DSB runs max three yrs/cyano crash. It's not that rinsing is required it's just that it's certain to work without variation and have no current aged counter examples. sandbed change outs or rinses are 100%cyano ideal for fuel export Cyano are among the few organisms that hitchhike into the tank via uncommon pathways....garden dirt etc they don't always indicate water problems, they indicate predictable hitchhiking and bloom and we have the option to force guide them out, use cheat chems, animals, or nothing and see if subsides. nancymatthews
I recently bought a Ricordea Florida and it was attached to a piece of LR. That LR has a little bit of cyano on it. I didn't notice it until I brought it home and dipped it. Dipping it did not kill it so I put it in my tank anyway. About 2 days later I noticed the Cyano spreading on my sand. After days of physically removing it and it not going away, I used the Red Slime Remover on it. Seemed to work. Plus, I noticed my turbo snail eating it. I didn't realized they liked that. Wish I had known that before I had to medicate my tank. I don't know if all turbo snails with eat it, I know mine did. Link to comment
Bcb577
Well it's not that I thought I HAD to switch it out,but I've never been happy with it,one I made it way too deep the first time around,I didn't rinse the sand clean when I first added it so every time I cleaned the glass and the magnet would rub the sand I got a sandstorm in my tank.I could have just rinsed out the old sand bed but I wanted to put in a sand that wasn't so fine.now there's no cloud when I disturb the bed and this isn't a one time thing I'm going to make sand bed cleaning part of my every few months maintinence.thank you brandon429 for all your help and advice!!!
