grafxalien
I decided to switch from io to Red Sea blue bucket today. My first batch was mixed to 35ppt and measured 7.3 kh, 400ca and 1170 mg with all salifert kits. This seems low across the board. I checked my refractometer with calibration fluid as well and it is spot on. Could it be a bad bucket of salt? Link to comment
jcreefer
Did you roll the bucket before using the salt? Salt can settle in the bucket with various gradients of elements separated out. Roll bucket to ensure uniformaty and remix, then test again. Jeff Link to comment
grafxalien
I rolled it around and shook it up pretty good before the batch. I removed around 1/4 of the salt from the bucket and rolled it/shook it again and made a new batch. Slightly better at 7.7 420 1200. Still at the low end of advertised, but better. Guess I can just add Mag to each batch Link to comment
GMay
Test kits are not all that accurate. I would consider your parameters are not all that far off what they say, 410 Ca, 1230 Mg, and 7.7 dKH. They will also give you full lot analysis if you ask for it. Link to comment
