Fluval Evo 12 Filtration, Upgrade?

Hello,

I am very new to the hobby, but I have a question. I see lots of things regarding filter socks and the ease of managing them. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on replacing the filter foam block in a Evo 12 with a sock for water polishing. If so is there a drop in replacement? Also, is there better set up for the foam block than the charcoal and bio-balls?

Thanks!

I'm not sure if a sock will fit in the filter chamber. You may be better off using filter floss and a baggy of carbon or chemipure blue nano which are pre bagged.

I threw away the sponge in my Evo 12. I made my own media rack in the first chamber with filter floss and chemipure elite. Second chamber is lots of biomedia (Seachem Matrix) and heater. 3rd chamber is just return pump.

Thanks for the replies. I currently have a protein skimmer in slot one so I will possibly look at Chemipure Blue. and Floss. With Chemipure i can ditch the charcoal correct? Sorry for all the newbie questions. I guess I should leave well enough alone since my water is clear and my clown's love it.

if you are putting the protein skimmer in the first chamber, then I would suggest a long piece of filter floss that covers the length of the 2nd chamber since there are slits all along the wall. You want to trap as much detritus as possible before it gets to your chemical filtration.

Still think the slits was a stupid design... currently in the first chamber i run CPE/Purigen/ and fitler floss on top/bottom. Second chamber I still have the sponge in with media and carbon.
