Filter media swap

Ac20 on a fluval edge 6G

I removed the foam block sponge because it's a nitrate factory. Plus I don't have large particles floating around.

I removed carbon bag. Ran it about 5 days once mini cycle finished.

Now from bottom to top I have.

Felt floss. Purigen. Felt floss. Biomax rings (that I'm gonna remove later) and at the top a golf ball size chaeto. With a led light on it.

Is that okay? I don't wanna throw anything off whack.

Stats currently. Before swapping was ammonia and nitrites 0. Nitrates 5 or 10 couldn't tell on the color card.

I did my first water change on Friday 50%. Dropped nitrates after mini cycle from 20 to 5-10

And plan on doing 10% every Friday. About a gallon.

No skimmer. Can't find one small enough to fit.

Stock. 3 blue micro hermits. 1 trochus snail. 1 nar snail. 2 cerinth that won't move or day or night. Their not dead cus the nar and hermits would've swarmed them. I think I'm gonna swap them out for a turbo or another trochus. That trochus non stop cleans day and night. Love him. Lol

2 clowns less then an inch each.

Feeding. Every other day. Fed yesterday flakes. Tomorrow frozen brine.

I'm not sure about the chaeto sitting on top of the filter media.

Most will mod a hob to have a refugium. I would look into that process.

I'm not sure what felt floss is?

In filters, general use is filter floss, carbon(usually matrix carbon or chemipure blue or elite) and phos removers(when/if needed)

There is no need for a skimmer. They are great additions for larger systems but not necessary on smaller tanks.
