Looking for a centerpiece fish

I have a Red Sea max E170 which is a 24" cube and I am looking to add my last fish but I want it to be something that pops. I have attempted a flame angel and it nipped my acans. I'd love to add a potters angel but again I am on the fence since I have a good amount of lps.

The sunburst anthia cought my eye last time I was at my lfs. The thought of adding a small juvenile tang (kole or tomini) crossed my mind but I don't really want to catch it a re home it when it starts to out grow the tank plus it isn't exactly fair to the fish so I have crossed that off the list.

Here is my current stock list :

Pair of false perc clowns

Flasher wrasse

Trio of purple fire fish

Any suggestions are welcome.

is it the 34 gallon tank? I can't remember, anyways tominis are the smaller of the tangs and I have seen them happily kept in 40 breeders so I don't think that would be an impossible option

All fish are centerpiece fish!

Starkii damsel gets fairly decent size and is colorful like an angelfish without the coral picking.

Just tried the juvenile yellow eye kole tang in a 40 with 2 clowns, unfortunately within 24 hours of being introduced the clowns ate it's tail and descaled half of its body, it passed away in its QT a little later after I recaught it from the DT. I have been pretty distraught over the whole ordeal and my clowns have never been aggressive before, however I believe they may have begun breeding and have been hosting my frogspawn which has turned them into little defensive devil spawn. It's embarrassing but I thought I would share my mess up so you could plan for the worst if you chose that path. Tang was just 2", female killer clown was 1 3/4", I think 40 is too small for the clowns and a tang but not one or the other. I would guess if one were to add the right aged fish at the right time in the right order, It might work but boy do I feel bad being responsible for that tangs death.

Like tam suggested, a Starks Damsel has the color of a flameback angel. Plus, they are about the least aggressive of the damsels. Another option might be a blue green chromis. Both are almost indestructible, can fight back without becoming a pest and have great color.

Outside of that, I've had both flameback and coral beauty angels, and neither bothered my corals. That may be just luck, on my part.

Banggai cardinals are great looking fish that are always out. Any of the flasher wrasses are both colorful and very active, as well. Carpenters, or mccosckers are usually easily found yet uncommon enough to catch anyone's eye.

If you want something a bit outside of the mainstream, you may want to try a red or yellow fuzzy dwarf lion or a fu Manchu lion.

I love my yellow assessor, too. I just don't think it would make for a "centerpiece fish", since they are more on the cryptic side.

Jewel and blue velvet damsels are both fairly aggressive and get big and ugly. Fantastic looking fish as juveniles, though.

I currently have a talbot damsel that I just caught and is in the fish trap. He's going back to the store, he isn't aggressive but his constant digging and sand storms are starting to bother my scoly and open brain.

I have two Talbot damsels in my Red Sea 170 and they have been easy to care for. I asked my LFS to order one for me

a couple of months ago. They like them so much that they are now part of their regular stock.

Check out Felicia's predator tank thread. She has a Fu Mancu lionfish.

She has a great tank!

I wouldn't recommend a dwarf lionfish to anyone wanting an extremely active fish, or a fu manchu to anyone who hasn't had a lionfish (they are allegedly more difficult to convert to frozen foods). I had a fuzzy that was pretty "stealthy" and it took months to get him to occasionally be willing to eat frozen.

If OP was to add a 7th fish to his 45 gallon, I wouldn't suggest it being a fu manchu.

a-t-m,

Yea, it is a great tank and an interesting concept. I do not dare show her tank to my 9 year old son though!

He is already hounding me for a Moray Eel.

I bought a Fuzzy Lionfish at my LFS. They have it eating frozen mysis shrimp. Going to bring it home this week.
