So the last 3times I've tried to put shrimp or crabs in my tank they all 3 died in about 12 hours,I was so frustrated and felt bad for the animals was trying to keep I almost didn't try again but I really wanted to have a shrimp and crab so yesterday I bought some.this time I really was super careful on how I acclimated them,I acclimated them for an hour and 30 hours later all is well, just another lesson I've learned in being patient in this hobby, nothing that's rushed is ever good, thanks for those who gave advise on my last thread concerning the mistakes I made last time!I bought 2 peppermint shrimp,1for my 10 gallon and 1for my 14 gallon.I bought an emerald crab for the 10 also.

Hope it works out this time! How old are the tanks? What are your tank's parameters? What type of fish do you have in the tanks? since your tanks are smaller, sometimes fish that may seem innocent become territorial (i.e. clowns) and bully shrimps.

I have a 10 gallon standard that has 1peppermint shrimp,1emerald crab, two torches snails, several dwarf Cerith snails,1clownfish,1yellow watchman goby, some gsp, xenia frag,2frags of so as,unsure of parameters as I just changed the water but have always been well within acceptable boundaries.I also have a coralife biocube 14 gallon,1 peppermint shrimp, basic cuc,1 red firefish,1blue damsel,4heads of trumpet corals,1mushroom, last time checked parameters all good.10gallon is about a year old,the 14gallon is about 5months

hmm... sounds like the tanks should be fully cycled (ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate <2ppm, pH 8.0, calcium 450-500ppm). If not done already, check for copper in the tank (LFS sometimes use copper treatments on fish, try not to get LFS tank water into yours). Are you using RO or RO/DI water (copper pipes, if using tap water could be the culprit)? Also, try keeping the water temp below 80F (slowly though swings of 2 degrees can cause problems).

Anyhow, all sounds good now after a good slow acclimation. :) Keep us posted!

  • 2 weeks later...

Well after a week the shrimp and crab both have dies, all parameters within normal readings including mag which was at 1450 if I remember right, but the other shrimp I put in a different tank at the same time is going strong

No I started it new and I've never used copper and I've never put any of my legs water into my tanks,I had a peppermint shrimp in this tank for almost a year,it's possible that the inverts were exposed during their stay at my lfs?all that have died all came from the same store.
