Bcb577
I have a biocube 14 gallon tank that's been up and running for about 5 months.being newer to the hobby I didn't know that you could go with either a dsb or shallow sand bed,so when I put the tank up I used all of the sand in the bag not wanting to be wasteful.in some areas of the tank it's higher than others reaching about 3inches deep at some points.my wife the other day was helping me clean the tank and she siphoned the sand bed with the siphone.now I have brown algae all over my sand bed,and I was thinking it might be due to the siphoning a dsb?so I'm thinking maybe a large water change?any thoughts would be appreciated! Jcon_343
Can you post a pic? Sounds like diatoms, was this the first time the sand has been disturbed since setting up the tank? It could be from the silica in the deeper portions of the bed. If it is in fact diatoms it will run its course, lower photo period, feed a little less and increase flow and it should help from the detritus settling in those areas. Link to comment
Bcb577
Hi and thanks for the response, unfortunately I can't send pics even though I could at one point, they do look like diatoms though.it has been siphoned by me before but I have only lightly siphoned but I think my wife went a bit deeper, lol I have cut back on feeding to just a cpl times a day once a day,ill cut back on the lights see if that helps,I'm planning on a big water change in a day or two Link to comment
