Live sand. Review

I ordered natures ocean white argonite live sand from Walmart.com. I got really lucky the sticker says it was packaged this month. So it's really fresh. And it was only $10 for 10lbs. I recommend it to anyone who needs live sand. It didn't sit on a shelf for months.

(Tag says. Best used by aug 2018. Has a shelf life of 24 months. So that means it was packaged August 2016)

I got a dust storm cus I just dumped it in but it's clearing up I can see the rock now it's only been about 20 minutes. Only running the aqua clear 20 with stock sponge (that I'm gonna remove because their nitrate factories) No filter floss. Killed the power head not to kick up anything.

That is a pretty good deal.

on a side note, some others may disagree but I have always found If your actively filtering for the dust in the water I would run the power head more movement the better because it will keep the dust suspended longer and allow your filter to catch more rather than it settling to the bottom and then you'll stir it up each time you siphon for water changes.

My power head is 500GPH that'll cause a typhoon especially since I can't see anything to angle it. Lol. I'm working on getting a 240GPH or a 90GPH.

nice! You could have rinsed it (controversial I know) but that will be fine, it'll clear up- I agree tho , kick those pumps up and eventually the floss or sponge will get it all out.

oh! you're the one with the fuval edge? yeah it'd prob have a sand dune

your rock looks cool- can't wait to see a pic once the dust settles

how deep did you make it? 1 inch or maybe a little more?

I poured the whole 10lbs in there. Some areas have 1 inch some have 3 inch. I'm waiting for it to settle and I'm gonna tweak it a little with a new spatula. I think if I point the 500GPH PH up towards the top glass maybe a corner I shouldn't get it to mess with the sand and still have a lot of flow. What do you think?

how many gallons is your edge?

I run 3 240gph and 2 AC70s on my 20 gallon :-)

6 gal. Lol 500 is over kill I don't want to stress my clown when I do get one. I'm just using it for the cycle. Later I'll use it to mix salt water in a bucket. Or do you think it'll be ok?

im turning my take over between 40-50 times an hour and i keep mostly SPS

500 on a 6 gallon would be like 83 times an hour plus whatever your Aqua clear is rated at... might be a touch over kill hahaha

Aq20. But I'm gonna cut the media basket up and make it a mini fuge. I've done it before. Just have chaeto and Purigen in it. I don't like sponges and ceramic rings their just nitrate factories.

Thinking about running one or two of these. I used them before. Very quiet and discrete. Hidden easily.

i have always used Hydor powerheads and had great luck. a lot of people say they are "cheap."

Literally whatever works for you and your budget and keeps your tank happy and alive is what is best.

my Aqua clear 70s are chop shopped baskets (one is a fuge running floss and cheto, the other is running floss, chemi pure elite and purigen) both have Aqua clear 20 or 30 impellers on them.

good luck and just keep plugging away at it. its way more fun when stuff is going right.
