JBJ 28 lighting upgrade options

I am looking to upgrade my JBJ 28 with intermediate lighting. I am looking at Kessil A160 , Steves LED upgrade, Nanobox or Prime HD. Not sure which is best route. Any experience or problems you see with any of them? Only have zoas now but would like to not be limited on what I can have in future if possible.

The nanobox retrofit would be my first choice. Dave's color mix is a personal favorite and Dave is really easy to work with.

Besides that a prime is a good option.

Kessil A160we has worked pretty well for my NC 28g. Check out my thread in my signature for details.

I went to a couple LFS to see what they had in stock and they all said unless I wanted to get sps corals I would probably be fine with stock intermediate lighting. Any idea if this is correct? Rather buy coral than unneeded lights.

All of those options will literally grow anything, you just have to decide whether you want to keep the hood or not. If you were ever to sell the light or use it for an upgrade a retrofit wouldn't be easy do anything with.

I am curious on this one as well. I have the 28gal nano with the "Pro" 89w LED lighting, and I really don't like the color temp. It's too white, and too bright. I just cant get any colors to pop on otherwise healthy corals. Leaning to the Prime but will follow this one for other ideas.

I have the intermediate and my corals are growing. The color temp is not great like already mentioned but since I want to keep the hood and put the money into corals I'm keeping it stock right now.

I wound up getting the regular Prime. It is much nicer than the standard light, endless color and intensity variations. Only thing I learned is i had to get the flexible arm since I couldn't get center media basket out with center mounting. Had to mount in 2nd from left chamber and bend arm to put light in middle of tank.

I have the Rigid Arm. Yes, it does get in way of the Media Basket. But when I need to get to that area, I just slide the arm over.

But then, I don't know if u have anything that would hinder that option. A Goose-neck is also nice.
