uwphoto
I have read through previous postings regarding Tailspot Blennies. 3 weeks ago I added one to my JBJ 45 cube. This particular fish is not reef safe! He has completely wiped out a Chalice and branching Monti. I have watched him in the act so there is no doubt who the culprit is. So far he has not gone after my other Monti and SPS corals. Catching him probably would create more havoc so I am trying to see if things will calm down. The LFS where I get my fish quarantines all their fish for two weeks before pick up and I am wondering if the Tailspot was just so hungry that he was going after anything that looked good. He now eats most frozen foods and loves Sprung's algae sheets. I have some macro algaes in the tank but nothing else for him to graze on. So be careful with these little buggers. Any suggestions on how to catch one would be appreciated! Link to comment
NYfishies
You know I always wondered if ours nibbled on the Zoa lashes! Link to comment
Mariaface
My lawnmower blenny, way back when, would interpret the green of corals as 'potentially food'. I'd catch him scraping at the trumpets, my hammer, etc. The corals really didn't like it (flesh shrank back immediately). I can imagine a sensitive coral wouldn't handle the 'testing' very well, but my hardy LPS held out until the guy got too big and I gave him to my LFS c: Link to comment
masterbuilder
Its a toss up. Some are nippers and some are not. I've had my tailspot for over a year in my sps tank and he is a model citizen. Link to comment
Tamberav
The thing with algae grazers is they... well.. graze... and while looking for algae they end up tasting other stuff too... sometimes they think that "other stuff" (your corals) taste pretty damn good! Link to comment
mystersyster
Blennies are little bastards. I sure do love them though Link to comment

uwphoto
Thanks all. I had to trade the large Monti in for some Birds Nest pieces because the Tailspot started working on it. The Chalice and Branching Monti are just skeletons. Nothing else has been touched. I did start feeding Sea Veggies, on a clip, which he and the Citron Goby love; the Dartfish eat the scraps. Interestingly the Citron has actually gotten a deeper yellow. It's hard to find fish that will stay small in a Nano so I am going to try and tailor the coral to the Tailspot since he is pretty cool. Glweek
I had a tailspot that did the same thing a few years ago. Link to comment
Clown79
I find blenny's like to clean around the corals which seems like eating them but they didn't. my tailspot blenny actually did go after my zoas and pecked at corals more so than my bicolor. Link to comment
uwphoto
This one cleaned the Chalice to the skeleton, while I watched! I have to say he is now a perfect citizen. He eats what I serve and does clean the rocks from time to time. Loves Sea Veggies. He is growing nicely and seems to have lost his taste for coral. I think he was just really hungry from his time in quarantine. Link to comment

Yet another reason to keep the back wall off my 40 gallon covered in algae, where the Blenny spends a lot of time. Link to comment
