29 gallon biocube ..Im getting rid of my bioballs and setting up my media basket soon.when I looked at the putigen package in the store it says treats up to 100 gallons but doesnt have any measurements, is it already in a bag inside the package? And if so how often do i change it

Yeah, it should already be in a bag (unless you get the loose stuff in the jar), and you just take it out every month or so depending on your bioload and replenish it per the instructions. I'd suggest having a couple around, because it takes 24hrs to clean and then longer to rinse and remove all the bleach or peroxide. I kept 2 - one in the tank and the other in clean, fresh pure RODI in a tupperware in the fridge so that I could swap them out as I needed.

Highly suggest using prime with the rinse water to declorinte the bleech residue and doing at least 2 rinse cycles at least 12 hours apart, preferably 24 hours, and rinse very well. I use a 1000ml graduated container about half full with a full cap of prime for good measure.

I use purigen in all of my tanks. In my planted tanks, it usually lasts a good 3 months before I have to recharge them. All depending on bioload and how much free flowing natural organics are in the water column. I think I have 4 bags in total that I switch between. The beads will become a dark brown when it's time to recharge.

I've had a bag in my 25g fowlr for almost 3 months and before that it was in my 7.5g fowlr (the tank the 25g replaced) for about 4 months and it's just now starting to change color indicating a recharge. I'm also running a bag of chemipure-elite. About 20lbs of Marco dry rock (6 months ago anyways) and 2 juvi false percs. Not too much of a bioload and the purigen isn't working alone but all in all its been a great product. I personally wouldn't set up a tank without it, but that's just me.

No harm whatsoever in using it and you can never use too much. Using too much will just result in redundancy.

If you end up buying the loose beads in the jar, you will need a very very fine mesh (seachems "the bag" or equivalent mesh size) or the beads will have a very good possibility of escaping into your entire system, and those suckers are TINY!
