Hey guys! I am a long time creeper on this website, and I have finally decided it was time to make a build. i guess enough time has passed with me reading and learning from your guys' amazing tanks. I have been head over heels for the ocean my whole life. Growing up in San Diego and having a dad who has spear fished and fished his whole life made me an ocean addict from the start. When I was younger my parents had a reef tank, which they had no idea how to take care of. They knew how much I was obsessed with the ocean and bought a tank then paid a guy to come by once a week and take care of it. I loved the tank until my parents took it down cause some faulty wireing nearly burned the house down. :D

Fast forward many years and I am now living on my own outside the nest. Soooo i took the plunge last October and have not looked back. I bought myself a red sea reefer 170, bought some bells and whistles and have been learning every since. Thanks to your guys' threads that tank has had a ton of success (with some failures too).

Now that brings me to this thread. I decided on not making one for the 170 cause its almost a year old and honestly I am constantly making mistakes on that thing, so here is the new Nuvo 20. To get the tank i had to convice my girlfriend it was gunna be her tank lol. It worked but i did lose my dream of a sps/zoa garden. She has been very understanding of this expensive hobby which is awesome. Also, she stares at the tank more then me so it didnt take much convincing. Buuutttt she did tell me she wanted one thing, the tank to look like a rainbow.

To me that presented a challenge. I have never seen a tank divided by color, and for good reason too, because it wouldn't look natural. Soo I decided with my new found ( and limited) knowledge that i would make it happen.

So for the start of the fun stuffs; Equipment

Tank and Stand: IM Nuvo Fusion 20 with IM stand

Light: Haven't decided yet, might take my kessil 360 off the reefer 170 while replacing that light with a nanobox hybrid

plumbing: will use the stock pump for a phosban reactor for carbon/gfo and then run that into one return, and use a Sicce to run the other return. Currently using bioballs in a minimax reactor

Skimmer: i have heard to many stories that the Ghost is just to unreliable, so either modding a Cadlights or Tunze 9001

Power head: Mp10

ATO: havent figured that out yet

filtration: filter sock with purigen on one side, with filter sock and floss and refugium on the other

Stock List

So im going to try and keep to similar textures across each spectrum

Red: Red Hornets, utter Chaos, or some other red type Zoas, red Monti Cap
Orange: Orange Lepto fruit loops or some other orange zoa, and an orange hammer for my show piece
Yellow: Yellow Monty, yellow leather, gold torch
Green: La Laker Zoas, Duncan, and an acid green octo or frog spawn
Blue: blue hornet Zoas, blue/green sympodium, true blue palys, maybe a blueish acro?
Purple: Purple Hornets/people eaters, Purple Sponge, Purple Gorg

This will definitely be a work in progress since I'm on a budget and what we want will not be cheap but what is in this hobby :D

Here she is, got my quarantine light on with some extra cheato from my 170's refugium

Trying to figure out my aquascape... Cant decide on minimal rockwork to add a lot of depth to the tank or go with two separate rockscapes to maximize corals.

Just ordered the Phosban Reactor.... chipping away at the equipment list.

Heres some bonus pics of my 170 :D

Got the MiniMax Reactor running some biopellets, along with the Phosban reactor, and some purigen.

Here's the back, i dedicated one of the returns with the stock pump, the thing really pushes some water compared to when it was split, while the Phosban is running on the other return.

I also re arranged the rockwork a bit. Was not completely sold on how I had it before. still playing around with the right side... but i do like the arch and the depth the left creates

Sweet! One day I want to do a rainbow tank in a mr.aqua 12g. I'll definitely be following! It looks good so far. I like the scape :)

I really like the left side's arch. I would say on the right side to see if there is a way you can stack one of the rocks on another. The juxtaposition between tall spire and cool arch would be killer. JMHO
