Which Return for Red Sea Reefer Nano?

Looking at return pumps for my incoming Reefer Nano. Would you suggest the Vectra or the Sicce? Red Sea recommends eaither, but I don't have experience with them.

However, I will have a Reeflink and I do already have a VorTech with the battery backup that will work with the Vectra.

save money and get a sicce or eheim, I feel like vectras are ridiculously priced, what's the gallons on the tank I can't remember, is it 30?

Vectra is bling. If you want bling go with Vectra. I like the new VarioS myself.

good way to put the vectra into perspective lol

Yeah, it's a 28-gallon system.

My Reefer XL425 will be here tomorrow, I went with a Sicce. Looked at the Vectra, but for the price difference didn't see the need.

eheim 1250 is what I use on my 20 L and 10G sump and it pushes water, at $100 or so I'd say go eheim or like previously mentioned even a sicce, vectras are more for show but that's just me, don't break your bank of you don't have to

If I go with something like a Sicce, do I need to use plumbing to regulate the pump, or do I just go with a lower rate than the overflow is rated for? This is my first sumped system so I'm a little uncertain.

i would get a ball valve or gate valve and get a pump that's around 10x your tank size so 300gph or higher and the valve will allow you to adjust the water height in your sump and flow

Does that shorten the life of the pump?

on cheap pumps, I've yet to hear of good quality pumps die out due to flow restriction, I did extensive research on the issue which is why I went with eheim, sicce is another good pump tho so you should be fine, I'm pretty sure every reefer who has a sump has a valve on their return line

Thanks for the information! I really appreciate it!

no problem! If you have any other questions feel free to ask, it's cool you went with the reefer nano so you don't have to map out your plumbing! As a newcomer to sumps that can get annoying, also whatever you do, do not add a valve on your overflow line, any restrictions could be a disaster if that line gets plugged and your tank overflows! Lol learned from experience
