Infulata36
Hi all, I have recently set up a Ocean Free Nano Marine tank (96L) which has a back filter system with a few cartridges with filter media in it. Also has a protein skimmer in the back section. See link for more details: http://theaquariumshop.com.au/shopexd.asp?id=5808 I was thinking of removing the 3 cartridges and replacing them with a filter bag and maybe some live rocks (although I have already lots of live rocks in the tank). Any thoughts or recommendations? Thanks in advance for your help! Link to comment
OzHobbyReefer
Have you considered turning one of those spots into a refugium. I've seen someone with a smaller tank do it by removing a section of paint from the back so that they could mount a light there to shine in. That would be cool and I'd do it but my OF Nano Marine 24L is a bit small. Link to comment
Infulata36
Yes that would be a neat little idea. The back area doesn't have a lid or anything so it gets light. How would I go about it? thanks for your help, much appreciated! Link to comment
OzHobbyReefer
I'll try and find the forum that shows it. Ah here it is. The member is TeenyReef. http://www.nano-reef.com/topic/353546-teenyreefs-10g-fusion-new-puffer/?p=4877616 Link to comment
jarmitage
Hi Infulata36, I would recommend keeping it simple, and remembering what your tanks goals are. Are you planning on a mixed reef or a low nutrient sps system? Some of the best all in one tanks ditch the standard media and simply use filter floss for a polish, gfo or rowaphos like media for phosphate control, and activated carbon. It's a great idea deciding out early on, as big changes down the track (construction wise, like a refugia) are a pain in the butt when the tank is running and can be a big disturbance to your coral. Best of luck - J Link to comment
Subsea
+1 on keeping it simple. Activated. Carbon all the time and phosphate resin as required. Refugiums do not need lights. They can provide refuge for amphipods and copepods. Link to comment
