RO vs RODI

Sorry if this has been discussed... BUT I'm REALLY CONFUSED!!!! I want to have a system that will be drinkable and at the same time use for my reef tank.

So I've been searching that the RO is for drinking and the DI is for Saltwater tanks?

Ummm I'm looking into this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00J2DGTD8/ref=s9_hps_bw_g60_i1

I'm not a hardware guy to be honest so I really don't know.. Does the tank on this product is considered the DI ?

If I only get an RO system it's still not safe for my reef ?

Please help :(

This is what you want:

Then buy a john guest 3 way fitting and put it on the output of the ro membrane. One output going to the DI filter stage and the other going to your drinking water jug or whatever you use.

The difference between RO and RO/DI is that RO alone won't get your 0 TDS which is what you need for the reef tank. On a properly installed system the RO membrane will put out water in the 2-3 TDS range and then the DI filter will take that to 0.

You can get RODI and then run a splitter after the RO and before the DI to make RO water. The RO water tastes gross here but that may have to do with the tap water I guess. Basically, low pH water tastes nasty.

Yes. I have the BRS setup , but whichever brand , the RO filters and membrane bring the water down from 300-500 tap water TDS to around 3-5. Then I have a small reservoir tank runs to the fridge , I think it has no taste at all Which I like. Then for the fish it goes through DI resin to drop from 3-5 TDS to zero ...

Don't drink RODI it's expensive and allegedly bad for you

Never make DI water using a drinking water pressure tank. The tank holds TDS creep water which is fine for drinking but eats DI resin much quicker.

I would go with the Spectrapure RO/DI system and an add on drinking water kit from Purelyh2o. Install the drinking water kit per Spectrapures Hook Up Diagram at the bottom of their webpage paying close attention to the 1/4" check valve between the pressurized RO and the DI filter. This arrangement makes DI straight from the RO membrane so TDS creep is not an issue but you still have RO for drinking. By far the best and least expensive way to go.
