Today 7/23/16 I have just reorganized everything and set it up for my recent transfer in a new tank. Originally I had setup my tank in a standard 10 gallon but due to some issues I recently moved everything into the Nuvo 10. So far I absolutely love the tank and would highly recommend it. I got it brand new for 55$ shipped off eBay so be sure to check eBay out if you want one.Photo Album: https://flic.kr/s/aHskD251EgLive StockFish:1 Ocellaris Clownfish (1st saltwater fish ever ) Sadly he jumped through the crack in my lid 1 Snowflake ClownfishCoral:Bi-color TorchGreen MontiKenya TreeGSPInvertebrates:3 trochus snails1 RBTAEquipment:Tank: Nuvo Fusion 10Media Basket: Stock Filter SocksSkimmer: None, just water changesChemical Filtration: Chemi-Pure Blue NanoPump: Stock Pump (probably going to add a spin stream)Light: Orbit Marine Led (plan on upgrading soon to maybe an AI Prime HD)Timeline5/28/16 - Equipment received tank setup and gets filled6/14/16 - Cycle Complete6/18/16 - Baby Ocellaris Clown added6/24/16 - RBTA added *Don't add an anemone this early, I shouldn't have but it ended up working ok*7/6/16 - First coral! I am using a standard 10 gallon tank with a custom all-in-one filtration system. I built this tank using pieces of acrylic and silicone. I'm really happy with the way it turned out and if you want more info about building this tank check out this video. After testing the tank for leaks, I started to put everything in. I added my heater, pump, etc. Then I added my sand and rock as well as my mixed saltwater. With a bottle of bio-spira I kickstarted the cycle. For about 4 weeks after I slowly added fish food to allow the bacteria to multiply until I had enough to safety get my first fish. I chose a clownfish for this is my first salt water reef tank, and I have heard they are hardy and easily cared for. I've had him for about a week and he's a really good looking fish. I plan on adding corals soon also. Thats my update for now, but I plan to continue updating if people on here are enjoying or seeing them as helpful information. I hope to use this topic as a way to learn more about the hobby as well as help others with their first experience.Equipment:Standard 10 gallon tank with custom aio for filtration75 watt aquatopp heaterMaxi-Jett 600 pump (too strong had to restrict flow)Orbit Marine LEDPlease feel free to leave any comments, suggestions, inputs below! tsinc
Well after a very happy day of reefing yesterday I didn't think today would turn out to be bad. Well I walked in my room today and was checking out my tank but couldn't find my ocellaris clown. After realizing it wasn't in the tank I looked down and there he was in the floor. I had my lid on but some how he managed to jump out. This completely ruined my day because I never would have thought he would have been able to jump. Any thoughts on why or how he did? I have the stock lid on and it's a pretty good fit. Also it was in the center and balanced out so there wasn't a big gap were he jumped. Also to make my day worse I tried feeding my other clown and she wouldn't eat. I really hope this doesn't continue and she will be ok. Anyways just a horrible day Link to comment
teenyreef
Oh no! I'm sorry about the clown They will jump especially as they get bigger. One of mine went after my hand when I put it in the water and he literally bounced off my hand and out of the tank. I put him back in and he was fine. I can't imagine how he could have jumped out with the stock lid on, though. How big is the gap in your lid? Link to comment

He was only about and inch long when he did. Maybe the female was chasing him and he just jumped. It just bums me out though. Wish I could have prevented it. Any ideas on how to get my other clown to eat? Link to comment

tsinc
wheres the RBTA? In the other tank the RBTA chose a secluded area in the back of the tank. So far after putting it in this tank i have yet to see it after the first night. Hopefully it will come out soon and choose a nice visible spot Link to comment

tsinc
So my green monti had a brown patch on it when I purchased it and that patch has appeared to grow a little. Just worried that the coral is browning out and maybe isn't getting enough light? I moved my light over so it was directly under it to see if it would help. Other than this, the new torch has grown so much already and seems to be doing amazing! Any help on the monti would be great Untitled by tsinclair20, on Flickr Link to comment

Looks like yours is well trained At a guess, I don't think the problem with your monti is light. Usually when they don't get enough light they just turn really pale all over. But it may grow faster in the higher light. Eventually it should encrust over the brown part. Link to comment

tsinc
Hi everyone, it's been awhile since I've updated but Everything has been good besides my monti cap. I think my lighting just isn't sufficient enough as it has been slowly turning more brown. All my parameters are good so the only thing I can think of is the lighting. I have been recently been looking for a new light so I can keep BTA's, LPS, and easy SPS such as monticaps and maybe a birds nest. Ive been looking at the AI Prime HD but if anyone has suggestions please let me know. Also if anyone is selling one I'd love to hear about it. Im trying to keep the cost around 200$ and the prime really seems to be the best option. Thanks in advance for the help! Link to comment

For your budget Id try and find a used AI Prime as most people sell them including the additional bracket for $200 or less. Link to comment

Yeah the AI Prime is the one I'm most interested in but wanted to see if anyone else has an opinion. Did you have success with the light? Also what corals were you able to keep? Link to comment

Did you have success with the light? Also what corals were you able to keep? I keep SPS,LPS and ZOAs with mine. I think the software is a pain in the ass compared to others Ive used but once you have a schedule rarely do you chance it so its a mute point I think. Link to comment

jisham
I have a Nuvo 10 that originally had an AI Prime, but I sold it because the programming isn't intuitive and AI refuses to offer any type of recommendations on programming, which totally sucks. Mine has now had a Kessil A3160WE Tuna with the Spectral Controller for over a year, and it's awesome -- looks fantastic, super easy to control and will grow anything you want. Of course, it's more than $200 so that may be a deal killer for you. Link to comment
Clown79
I have 2 tanks. 15g has Ai Prime with mixed reef 10g has Aquamaxx Nemolight with mixed reef. Both lights are good- have to agree the programming/instructions with Ai- SUCK! The namostream most likely won't work with the stock pump. The stock pump is weak, barely moved my water and wouldn't moved the nanostream. The rotating attachments need higher gph. I upgraded my pump for better water movement and used the nanostream. Ok thanks for the input. From what I've seen most people say the light is great but the app and programming is hard to nail down. I'd love to check out your thread if you have one! Also, have you used the light with BTAs? Link to comment

dferrari13
I've heard bad things about the AI prime...the internal fans don't last....I would do it right the first time and go with a Kessil a160we and the spectral controller....it will run you about $400 between the 90 degree attachment, goose neck, light and controller....but it's a solid light and it lasts for a long time and you can keep anything with it....go with either the kessil or the nano box.....I've always found that if you try to save money in this hobby....you will end up spending twice....but this is just my opinion Link to comment
