SubMariner0805
Hey everyone, I am new to the reefing hobby (but not new to the aquarium hobby) and I just started up a 10 gallon nano reef in my apartment (IM Fusion 10). I've been researching a lot on this website and other websites and I have learned so much information. I don't have specific plans yet of livestock but generally I am planning to keep one fish, a small CUC, a star, and a bunch of corals. Any advice you have would be great. Thank you all so much and I am proud to be apart of the community. SubMariner0805
Just for my log, Live sand was introduced on 7/13/16, water was tested consistently for a week with the following consistent readings: Salinity- 1.024 pH- 7.8 Ammonia- 0 Nitrite- 0 Nitrate- 0 Live Rock was introduced on 7/20/16, water was tested a few hours later and this morning with the following readings: Salinity- 1.024 pH- 7.8 Ammonia- 0.25 Nitrite- 1.50 Nitrate- 160 Did anyone else notice an immediate and drastic spike in ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate following their first addition of live rock? Is it because the live rock is curing? Link to comment
vangvace
Yes the live rock is curing and the bacteria are doing their thing. Was there any smell to the rock before you put it in? Link to comment
SubMariner0805
Here is a quick update. My tank has been cycled for some time now (it took approximately 3 weeks). I added a small clean up crew consisting of one dwarf zebra hermit, one red tip hermit, one bumblebee snail, and one nassarius snail. There honestly isn't much algae in the tank at all but they are doing well (they have been in the tank for almost one month now). Approximately two weeks ago I added my first fish, an Ocellaris Clown. My clown does spend a lot of time in front of the opening in the rocks or up by the return pump flow. Overall, everything is going well and I'm happy with my tank. Link to comment
SubMariner0805
Hey everyone, It has been a while since my original posts but I am happy to report that everything is doing well. I have learned so much from this website and its helpful members. I just wanted to share some updates with you all. All of my equipment in the first post is still the same. For all of the pictures I am stuck using my cell phone so I apologize that they are not high quality. Here is a full tank shot of how it looks right now: Here is one of the inhabitants. His name is JJ and I have had him for approximately 3 months. Here is the second inhabitant. His name is Tanaka. I have had him for approximately 1 month. I couldn't get a recent picture of this guy but he is bigger now and just as active. Meet Rodney :-) Now for some coral shots. I don't have many yet but I am just getting started. I am having a heck of a time growing these Xenia. I just moved them to this location. They open up fine but have definitely lost polyps. I think they may be getting eaten. My little Mangrove Garden I hope you all enjoyed and thank you so much for your support. Link to comment
