I have been trying to figure out if they have an option for nano's under 20g.

I'd like to try the elite on my 10g but not sure what size is best.

How often do you chsnge out your elite?

Whats the benefit to Chemi pure elite vs just using purigen and some carbon or just purigen and no carbon?

Chemipure products do the same as purigen and carbon except its pre bagged.

I don't like and can't work with bleach so regenerating Purigen is not an option for me. - its easier to use chemipure.

I use the chemipure blue nano and I really like that I don't need to mess around with products and media bags, i rinse the pre bagged media and plop in.

Just wondering if elite is better than blue?

The pre-bagged Purigen comes in a size meant for 75gal (100mL). If you're adding it because you have lots of organics you want to get rid of, purigen will strip the water so fast you can create light shock from how quickly it clears. I use purigen in my freshwater planted tanks, but not in reefs anymore..

You could go through the hassle of buying Seachem's The Bag and putting in a certain amount, and it may be more cost-effective in the long run (especially since even chemi-pure will become useless if it gets covered in bacterial film). I use matrix carbon and phosguard in the aqua clear 20 media bags, and replace it every two weeks or so.

I have very little algae in my 15g, a light dusting on the front glass, so light i only use the magfloat on water change day.

My 10g- no matter what I do there is an issue with algae, now cyano. My nitrates are at 5, phos 0 but I have a salifert kit on order to see if its my phos kit not picking up low range.

I like the chemipure blue but was wondering if elite was better- but it seems to not come in smaller quantities so the option is out. I don't want to strip the tank. I contacted them months ago and you're right- using the bigger bags will strip small tanks unless you have major phos issues.

I asked Purigen about the pre-bagged stuff, and they said it's up to 75 gallons, but can be used safely on small tanks, which is what I thought as I have been running it on a 14 gallon marine and 22 gallon planted for months with no issues.

Now if the tank is established, it would be advisable to reduce light and increase it in increments so the creatures can adjust, but according to Sea Chem, it can be used safely on smaller tanks, and the 75g is the recommended maximum.

I mean... Yes? I'm sure it'll keep a smaller tank pristine, that's not what I was pointing out. In a tank with already high dissolved organics, adding a full bag would mean rapidly removing nutrients from the water column, which is something you avoid (unless there's some extenuating circumstance) if you have sensitive corals. I used it in my 28g NC a few years back, but every time I replaced it I was causing light shock - I happen to work better with smaller, more frequently replaced amounts of chemical filtration media :P

I just got the impression from your last post that it shouldn't be used on smaller tanks is all, and thought I would ask them.

Purigen is the only chemical media I have used since the 90's, up until now I never used any on either salt or fresh, I am still on the fence if its worth using.

Again I am not a coral fan and only keep a select few softies, I prefer fish.

A note on purigen. If you add it, make sure to overdose amino acids as I saw my zoas and sps start to fade in colour. After taking out the purigen, the colour came back. If you have above 1.0ppm nitrates, its a good method to get ulns. Anything below that... Consider an alternative.

Should i be concerned if i use chemipure blue nano pack in my nuvo 10 gallon? no fish just zoas currently, also what is a good amino acid and other supplements for zoas??

I use Aquavitro fuel by seachem, a lot of my friends also recommend it as it has minor trace elements. You can also use reef energy A B. I use KZ amino acids but find fuel to trigger the same response for cheaper.
