ADA 60F by Tuffryu

Hi guys,

I wanted to post my newly set up ADA 60F predominantly sps tank to this forum. This is actually a transfer tank from my old ehiem 9 gallon aquastyle, which was also a transfer tank from my original fluval spec lll 2.6 gallon. Lots of transfers as you may notice, but I think I've finally found the tank I've always wanted with the 60F. I've previously posted in the pico forum, but figured that 8.6 gallons is longer pico status.

Some brief history, the fluval spec was the first reef tank I owned which had primarily polyps and crap. Next I transferred stuff to the 9gal and started buying sps frags - and before you know it I am dosing calcium, alkalinity and spot feeding acros. What a hobby :)

Some tank details.

The set up

  • ADA 60F cube garden 8.6 gallon (24w x 12d x 7h)
  • Nanobox reef tide M
  • Aquaclear 20 HOB (chemipure blue and floss)
  • Ecotech Vortech MP10
  • Jabeo 4 pump dosing system
  • Smart ATO Micro
  • Aqueon 50 heater
  • Coral Pro Reef Salt (I'm surprised most ppl don't list the salt used)

Dosing

  • Bionic Calcium 12ml/day
  • Bionic Alkalinity 9 ml/day
  • Seachem Magnesium salt (used in top off water)
  • Reefroids twice a week
  • Acropower twice a week

I wanted to post some transfer pics first from last weekend and then post again with some pics after the dust settled.

Just an awesome shallow tank IMO.

This was my 2nd time moving to different tanks so it wasn't as stressful.

Sand, rocks and all corals are in. I just threw everything in so I'll be come back to move shit around. Just glad everything went well. The tank is shallow so I unfortunately had to throw out some rocks with corals on them.

The biggest concern I had with the transfer was the salt. I was using Kent in the eheim tank and switched over to the Coral pro for this tank. Everything is reacting positively so far even though the tank looks like ass. Will hope to clean up all the equipment in the back as well.

Stay tuned!

Some better shots now that the sand has settled.

I just added a Chalk Bass. Really friendly (and shy) fish. Started glueing a few pieces onto rocks.

Sorry for the shitty iphone pics as I don't own a real camera.

Happy Friday!

Some new tank shots.

Added a blue assessor to the tank over the weekend so this should do it for fish. Chalk bass and goby all seem to get along with him. Assessor is a great reef fish - peaceful and fun to watch swim. Too bad they cost a lot for such a small fish.

Couldn't get a shot of him, but will keep trying.

Some pretty good extension after starting to use reefroids a week ago.

Some updated full tank shots.

Finally getting the hang of iPhone reef photography and post color correction :) Still haven't gotten the hang of the phone macro lens, but getting there.

Trying to get a shot of the blue assessor but he's still kinda shy. Happy Saturday folks.

Some shitty news.

Power outage the other day for 8 hours caused my birdsnest colonies to start tissue necrosis :(

Sucks full ass.

Fragged the tips and stuck them to some rubble. Fingers crossed. Didn't realize these things were so sensitive. Everything else is thriving.

  • 2 weeks later...

Lost my birdsnests unfortunately :(

I'm convinced that a DSB is ideal for reefs.

When I switched my tank from the cube to the shallow tank, I moved only 1/4 of the sand over and I noticed nitrates rise. Nothing crazy, but it went from 1 to around 3.5-4 and holding. I tried cheato but quickly threw it out as my corals were reacting somewhat negatively to it. I also threw out the chemi-pure elite and replaced it with the Blue version. Not exactly sure why but my tank reacts really bad to the elite and everything stays closed.

10lbs of Nature's Ocean No. 0 Bio-Activ is what I went with, and NO3 is down to 2 after a week.

  • 1 month later...

Decided to move everything over to a Fusion 10 guys. Love the ADA and plan to keep it for frag purposes.

Fusion 10 thread started if interested :)

Moving everything again.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!
