dropped
Ok the time has come that my coral and myself have out grown my 30 gallon tank, its time to move up to a 90 gallon, yay me! I don't really have the luxury of running two tanks, as all of the equipment will be moved from the 30 to the 90. So here is my question. Can i move all my rock, coral, and sump etc over to the new tank without cycling it? My current tank is bare bottom so there will be no sand to transfer over. I will also be upgrading the sump at a later date, maybe in a few months depending on funds. any advice would be great! Link to comment
gus6464
It's fine since you won't be adding more livestock right away. It will basically be like you did a 100% water change so no biggie. If you want to be 100% sure just buy a bottle of MB7 and when you fill up the new tank and transfer everything over just dump half the bottle into the tank. Link to comment

gus6464
have you managed to do this in the past with an SPS tank? Yes. I moved a 48g with sand to a bare bottom 23g with sticks and a clam. Link to comment
cruiZe
yes, you will be fine. Esp not having any sand (that is usually where tons of detritus is hiding) is the new tank going in the same spot? I moved from a 15g to 40b and added a ton of reefcleaners dry rock no problem. I did the transition over a week but I'm confident it could be done in a day. Match your new water as close as you can - just like a big water change. Link to comment

As long as you don't increase bioload immediately, your rocks should have no issue with handling your current fish load. Think of it more as just adding salt water to your tank or doing a water change- you most likely will have positive results. Link to comment

No its not in the same spot in the house so that makes it easier. I moved 45 to 100. Oh i hope the results are good! its taken ages to get my SPS to this point i would hate to kill them off. My sump will be moved over as well so maybe thats a big bonus. Link to comment
