What's this orange stuff? Sponge?

I didn't notice this orange piece on the zoas when I bought it (it was turned around in the tank)

 

Is it sponge? it's soft. how do I separate it from the plug?

Sponge! And pretty. I would run a scalpel or something under the superglue and put that in the tank (after dipping), zoas and sponge and all, leaving the plug behind.

If you do use a scalpel, I would advise using eye protection! You don't want any zoa juice in your eyes.

 

You probably already know this, but it is important for everyone to get a little reminder of safety precautions when working with corals such as zoanthids.

Wow, that looks awesome! My zoas came with this really neon yellow sponge, and two years later, it's grown quite a bit! Sponges are really cool, I would just leave it on with the zoas.
