damaba
-The last 6 months In the last 6 months ( http://www.nano-reef.com/topic/362010-damabas-17-gallon-journal/)I had a go at my first saltwater tank since I was a teenager, of cource I had grandiose ideas of what the tank would be without any experience of getting the tank to that point. Over the last few months I've made a few rookie mistakes like fiddeling with the tank to often, over feeding, over doing it on additives and not letting the tank go through its natural ugly stage. I've also encountered some challenges like dinoflagulates that even advance reefers find difficult to overcome. Needless to say I've gained some insight into the kind of patience a saltwater tank requires. With that I'm starting my adventure over after nuking my first tank. -Tank Mr. Aqua 17 gallon -Lighting Current Satellite plus pro 24''-36'' Current Orbit marine 24''-36'' -Filtration Tetra whisper filter Sicce 100 Canister filter ( broke ) Eheime 2211 Mame nano skimmer Fiji pink sand 20 lbs Reef cleaners dry rock 20 LBS -Items Fulval M Series heater Vertex Cleaner mag Frosted film background Elso osomilator BRS Carbon BRS GFO RODI Buddie Reef crystals salt Microbactor 7 -Goals To enjoy a beautiful macro algae and gorgonian dominant nano tank -Husbandry Weekly water added to the ATO system Biweekly cleaning schedule for filter Monthly trimming of macros once established Added live sand Aquascape (Rock Plains) Link to comment

damaba
Cycling tank. Added all equipment this weekend including a canister filter with foam sponge, protein skimmer and surface skimmer. Also added some live rock to help seed the dry rock. Link to comment
Pjanssen
Looking good. It's good to learn from our mistakes. Sounds like you are on the right road for your restart. Good luck. Looking forward to seeing this tank progress. Link to comment
damaba
Just a quick update All is going well, I finished the first cycle and did a 50% water change. Now I'm seeing my first diatom bloom and it's being kept under control by a team of 3 astral snails, 4 cerith snails and 3 black footed baby astral snails. Link to comment
damaba
The rocks are starting to color up nicely, and the snails are keeping up with the diatoms for the most part other than me cleaning the glass every 3 days. Also there are two new clownfish that I added this weekend. They'er still getting acclimated to the layout so they have been kind of shy the last few days. Link to comment
damaba
Ok so I got my first shipment of macros in from Uniquesalesonline (eBay store). The order was placed Monday and I receive the three macros in very good condition Wednesday day afternoon. I have them just acclimating at the moment but once they start to grow I will take them off the plugs and glue them to my rocks. For those of you that are looking for an amazing variety of macros and even some gorgonians I highly recommend this shop. (http://www.ebay.com/sch/uniquesalesonline/m.html) Link to comment
