Zanclea Hydroids

Got something of a Zanclea infestation. Acro seems ok for the time being.

There are contradictory accounts floating around on Zenclea Hydroids, as to wether or not they are detrimental to the corals health or not. According to some people and scientists Zenclea hydroids are commensal symbionts, while others insist that the hydroids have been detrimental to their colony's health.

Anyone here got any personal experiences with these critters they would like to share?

don't know anything about "zenclea" hydroids (and tried to google but got zero hits), however I do have colonial hydroids and have never had any issue. see them on the glass or swimming around from time to time but have never had an issue with them.

Here's a quick 2012 article about it: https://reefbuilders.com/2012/03/22/zanclea-hydroid-acropora/

There's a scientific paper called "New insights into the symbiosis between Zanclea(Cnidaria, Hydrozoa) and scleractinians". If you have access to reading those papers, you can give that a shot (or read the abstract, it's a short summary of the whole article).

IME, when I used to keep Acros back then, one of my frags had it and it didn't seem to affect it at all, although it eventually disappeared on its own.
