Aqueous Sealant

TANKIN

Recommended Posts

I purchase Aqueous sealant because the GE silicone sealant I use to purchase from Home Depot has anti mold additive and not sure how it will effect the fish. I just completed a 35 gal customs size 32"H x 30"L X 6"W using 3/8" glass. I have build many tanks in the past using GE silicone and never had a problem with air bubbles appearing in the seams after filling the tank with water.

I waited 24 hours and filled the tank am noticing thousands of tiny bubbles between the front panel of glass and the side panel. They were not there when I completed the tank all seams were tight and void of air bubbles.

I am concerned that the Aqueon sealant is not curing as the original GE silicone.

After 5 hours no leaks at the bubbles, I emptied the tank and most of the bubbles disappeared will let it cure another 24 hours. and try again.

Any suggestions.

It takes at least a week for silicone to fully cure. that aqueon stuff is comparable to GE 1. probably the same thing but repackaged. the only silicone I use for tanks is momentive rtv 100 series. sorry I couldn't answer your question directly.
