The Aquarist
Is this brown jelly on the favia? And if it is, should I toss the coral? Link to comment
jack1978
Hard to tell from that sjot.....is it like snot? Link to comment
Clown79
Its hard to say with the pic. If it is, it can spread. How are your water parameters? Did the brain get stung or damage from flow? There are some treatments mentioned online. Some mention removing the part of the coral infected, some suggest dips, some suggest hydrogen peroxide treatments. Link to comment
holy carp
Was it recently fragged and exposed? How long has it been in that spot? Link to comment
The Aquarist
Hard to tell from that sjot.....is it like snot? Its kind of like mush. There are a couple of bubbles. Its hard to say with the pic. The brain could have gotten stung by the acans to the right, but the acans are to the right. Besides, they have been slightly touching for a couple months now and I haven't seen any sings of warfare. Was it recently fragged and exposed? How long has it been in that spot? Nope. The last thing I did was feed it on Saturday. Yesterday, it looked like some of the brown goop was coming out of the mouth. I thought it was poop, which always happens the day after a heavy feeding. Today, the whole head was covered in the brown goop. I'm going to the lfs today. Maybe I should pick up some revive? Link to comment

Won't hurt....if it's BJ, it'll spread fast. I'd dip it and or cut off the infected area. Link to comment
holy carp
I'm guessing it's not brown jelly, but a dip probably won't hurt either way. Did the front left used to be green? Do you have older photos for comparison? Regardless, I think you should do something about that valonia... Looks like that'll be a separate project... Link to comment
ReefWeeds
how close is the goni? Looks like that may be the culprit from the photo. Did anything fall on the coral and injure it? Link to comment
The Aquarist
I tried sucking it off with a pipette. I couldn't suck all of it - its kind of hard to suck off. I only got a few pieces. Link to comment
The Aquarist
Update: Well whatever this stuff is its killed 3/4 of the coral. Tossing the frag out today. I also see something similar on another coral so I'm a little worried now. Link to comment
blizzardscout2
You might consider fragging off the bad part of the new coral if it looks to be the same problem. You might be able to save the origin coral by fragging it too. Good luck, I had a few good pieces of coral destroyed by brown jelly before I knew what to do. Link to comment
holy carp
Sorry to hear this. Did you get more photos as it progressed? And did you end up dipping or just waiting? Link to comment
Clown79
I would definitely frag off the infected area, possibly dip as well. Link to comment
markalot
Sorry about the coral. That red Goni is capable of killing anything it wants too, just FYI. See how some of the tips are white? You may notice that when it gets upset you can see the color change in the tips. if one of those tips touches something it can deliver a powerful sting. Link to comment
