The things we forget we have!

This has been a fun day for me! A few years ago I was excited about a reef tank and set the project into motion. As with some projects, life got in the way and the project was boxed up and forgotten in a family storage area. Fast forward to today......

After finding this site recently I set up a spec 3 tank and while looking for some basic equipment it hit me like a ton of bricks, "Holy crap I think I have that piece!" "I wonder if I still have my old tank too?" So after a little searching I dug out the old project tank and all the equipment I stock piled for it. Boy was I surprised at what I had!

2 powerheads

1 blue line pump

1 581gph pump

1 fluid bed filter

1 coralife skimmer

Hydrometer

30lbs salt mix

Boxes of fittings and pv from a planned 30g sump build (found the sump too)!!

10lbs of rubble from marcorocks

A 55 gal test tank with stand

A spare 90gal steel stand

More pvc and lines, bulk heads, etc.

test kits

Enough cut glass to make 2 more sumps???(maybe I was going to dived the 55gal??)

Also found the old stand and display tank. None of this stuff has even been plugged in! Maybe it's time to ditch the spec and finish this!?!

Well good thing for your forgetful memory!!! and thank god no one sold it! Good for you and that might take some more time then a Spec3 haha... Super interested to see what you do with that setup and this site will definitely help you along the way. As far as those test kits go def take a look at the expression date... Sorry to rain on your parade but they do expire :( but as far as everything else goes seems like you only need a few more parts here and there and you are up and running... In my opinion do not be cheap when it comes to lighting ...you can thank me later but when you start getting into advanced corals like SPS the money spent early on will start making you smile. Also this site is focused more on Nano tanks so go ahead and check out Reefcentral.com .. again you can thank me later ;)

HAVE FUN LOOKING FOWARD TO WATCHING/ HELPING!!! :)

That's a cool tank and stand

Thank you! There was a lot of time sunk into that. Lots of pizza and beer. I just need to build doors, finish trim, and stain.

That really sucks....but in the grand scheme it's no big deal. After getting everything drug out of storage the shopping list is growing....

Just curious. How do you forget about and lose that much equipment?

Getting married, moving 3 times for work, having kids, finishing a degree and dealing with some family health issues will definitely make you forgetful. The biggest reason is simply, out of sight out of mind. Our family storage is about an hour drive from me.

Now the most important question. Now that I'm working on the 90g again what do i put in it once its done? Predator tank? Reef? Really big tank for a Zebra Mantis (Lysiosquillina maculata)? I need ideas!

Well after doing a mock up I really need to decide what is going to live in the tank. That will decide what lighting, rock scape, etc I go with. Also whether I will use a fluidized filter stacked with the sump. I feel like if I go with the fluidized filter that will limit my invert / coral ability due to possible nitrate problems. But that would only be a concern in a power outage.

If anyone has any ideas for something truly unique that will be comfortable in a 90g tank. I'm open to different lighting requirements.
