questions about hybrid and sunpower retro

Interested in getting either the hybrid or the sunpower retro just got a couple of questions.

How many power outlet is needed to run each fixture?

Is the hybrid in production (says coming soon on the website) and how much is the hybrid?

Are all the controllers really necessary to run the fixture?

If you get a Hybrid, it should have two power cords - one for the LEDs, fans, and controller, and then one for the T5.

If you get a Sunpower, I'm not 100% sure how Dave is doing that now. The driver board will be internal, but I'm not sure if the power supply for the LEDs and fans will be, and then will still have either one or two power cords for the T5 depending on how many bulbs the fixture comes with stock.

Just getting back in town from the beach!

  1. Three total. One for LED, one for T5 and one for Fan if you use a normal Sunpower.
  2. As of now I am changing a few things on the NBR Hybrid.
  3. Controllers? You will just have one.

I have three light fixtures from Dave. The latest being an ATI Retro. Cool fixture and great customer service. I recommend them.

I have the ATI hybrid and there is one cord going from the light to a breakout box and then three power cords - one for the T5s, one for the LEDs/controller and one for the fans. I feel it is a very clean setup and really love my ATI nano box hybrid.

And I should read down! Dave answered :)

What do you plan to change on the hybrid?

I am trying to finish a few designs to figure which will work better. The Sunpower is an AMAZING fixture to mod to make high end. However it does have a few flaws.

  • 6 - 8 bulb units sag in the center due to weak chassis
  • Dimmable units programming is terrible
  • Housing is getting thin, really thin.

What I would like to do and use on new generation NBR Hybrid.

  • Philips Ballasts
  • T5 control with Bluefish - I have been testing with the 1-10v convertor I currently have
  • Internal Ballast - BIGGEST pain for me as of now.
  • True reflectors
  • Sliding splash guard instead of screws

Still a ways out but in the pipeline. With the NBR LED units solid and consistent I can really start to focus on this. The RETRO thread has pricing for Sunpower retros. I can do custom work to work for you.

Oh also will the nano box board come in a housing or is it like a open board?

Let me know if you have any other questions!
